ADOPT-A-RESCUED-BIRD MONTH (ASPCA)

JAN 8: Oprah and Beyond event in Kansas City. On Thursday, January 8, the Alliance will be holding a "Beyond Oprah: Missouri's Puppy Mills" educational event in Kansas City. The event will include a viewing of a portion of the Oprah show exposing the problems with the puppy mill industry in Pennsylvania. Additionally, there will be a panel discussion of the puppy mill problem in Missouri and how interested persons can help. The panel will feature Alliance director, Julie Leicht, Alliance legislative director, John Coffman, and Bob Baker, Investigator with the ASPCA. This special event will be held at the Ron Berg Gallery and Event Space, Crossroads District, 1525 Grand Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64108 beginning at 7:00 pm. Parking is available behind the gallery for this event. This educational presentation is co-sponsored by No More Homeless Pets Kansas City and is presented with the gracious support of the Ron Berg Gallery.

JAN 17: Chili Dog Dinner & Silent Auction fundraiser for the Blue Springs Dog Park. 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Vesper Hall, 400 NW Vesper St., Blue Springs, MO 64014. Silent Auction and demonstration by Missouri Search & Rescue K-9 Unit. People only, no dogs please. Register by calling 816-228-0137.

JAN 20: Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation’s annual Lobby Day on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Lobby Day will consist of an overview of the Alliance's legislative agenda for 2009, an opportunity to ask questions of the Alliance's lobbyist and other Alliance staff, a chance to network with other individuals interested in animal welfare issues, and an opportunity for you to meet with your legislators to discuss upcoming legislation. And...we will have a special guest - "Hector," one of Michael Vick's fighting dogs, will be at Lobby Day to bring attention to dog fighting as an animal welfare issue. JAN 29: Pet First Aid Training, Thursday Jan 29th 6-9pm at Excelsior Springs Fire Department, 1120 Tracy Ave. Excelsior Springs, MO 64024. The cost is $30 per person Red Cross instructor Register in advance seating limited – register by emailing wfhughes2002@aol.com or call the Wyandotte County Red Cross branch. Checks made payable to "American Red Cross", Call 913-321-6314 to pay by credit card. You learn CPR + basic pet first aid +pet disaster preparation+ more! Students will receive the book of their choice Dog First Aid or Cat First Aid the day of the training to keep along with a certificate of participation. This is included in the price of the class.
