Animal Cruelty Prevention Month (ASPCA)

APRIL 19: Gladstone Parks & Recreation’s annual Walk ‘N Wag at Happy Rock Park in Gladstone, MO. A one mile dog walking event which benefits the Gladstone Animal Shelter.

APRIL 26: HELP Humane Society presents their second annual K-9 Fun Run fundraiser! We invite you and your K-9 friend to join us and support a wonderful cause. You may choose to participate in the 1-mile walk, the 2-mile run, or both. All human participants will get a t-shirt and all K-9 participants will get a doggie bag. Enter your dog in our K-9 contests to earn additional prizes! Contests include: Biggest Dog, Smallest Dog, Best Pet Trick, Best Smile, Most Unusual Looking, and Best Costume. Place: Belton's Memorial Park, East Avenue & Commercial Street, Belton; Time: 9:15am- Check In Starts for 2-Mile Run 9:30am- 2-Mile Run Starts 9:45am- Check In Starts for 1-Mile Walk & Contests 10:15am- Pet Contests 10:30am- 1-Mile Walk Starts. APRIL 27: 1st Annual WOOFSTOCK Dog Walk/5K Run -Family Festival. Come to Zona Rosa and step back in time to the WoodStock days of tie-dye clothing, long hair and bellbottom jeans as the Northland Animal Welfare Society(NAWS) takes you along the route with musicians playing tunes from the past. All well behaved, friendly, licensed and vaccinated dogs are invited to bring their owners and join the Love-Peace-Fun-filled day. Lara Moritz, KMBC-TV9 and her Golden Retriever, Nina will lead the 1-mile walk at 9:00 a.m., along with the 2008 WOOFSTOCK Mascot, Cami from the office of the Top Dog Sponsor, Deligeorges & Wiles/ Lasik 1. (Runners start at 8:30 a.m.) Events include appearances by the Kansas City Brigade Cheerleaders and McGruff, Canine Idol Contest, Pooches on Parade Fashion Show, Agility and Canine demos. Kansas City Police Department/Save A Child will offer finger printing for all children and Zona Rosa and Furry Kids Refuge have sponsored FREE Micro-chipping for the first 200 dogs. Pet related vendor booths range from pet-sitting services, doggie ice cream cones to artists will be stationed throughout the area. Prizes and gifts for all walk/run participants including event t-shirts and goodie bags. And you won’t want to miss the finale; the kick-off to the first Yappy Happy Hour to be held north of the river! $20.00 adults, $ 5.00 for children under 12 years of age – Pets are FREE.
