Is "a line of descendants perpetuating particular hereditary qualities" all there is to it?

The American Kennel Club recognizes 153 breeds of dogs, but the American public is probably only sure of a dozen or two. Veterinarian Bruce Fogle features more than 400 breeds in his beautiful Encyclopedia of the Dog, but even serious dog fanciers are likely to mis-identify the Swedish Drever as a cross between a Beagle and a Pembroke Welsh Corgi or confuse the Black Russian Terrier with the Giant Schnauzer.

Is a bird a good pet choice for you?

They’re beautiful, exotic and they have a real “cool” factor. However, there are many things to consider when thinking about owning a bird. Birds are very delicate creatures. They require adequate housing and plenty of attention to thrive. Their life span can be long, especially among the larger parrots. With proper routine care, a healthy diet and lots of love many birds even outlive their owners. It is not uncommon for some bird owners to find themselves in the position of planning for their avian companion’s care after they are gone.
